Goodbye to Adelaide

As you can see we managed to get the van off the front lawn, in the end with very little drama, so all that's left to do now is to say our goodbyes, for now anyway, and to hit the road again.

Typical of us, we are leaving right at the start of school holidays (Great - Not), so our plan is to find somewhere to hide out for the next couple of weeks and stay away from places where the masses will congregrate.
Step 1. - Bludge off a sister and camp up in their front yard (paddock) for a couple of nights.

Mundulla

Camped in the yard

Have to say it was great playing the tourist again, on the way through to Mundulla we stopped at Tailem Bend for a lunch spot, can't say I've paid too much attention to this town, but it turned out to be an interesting interlude to the drive.
The shed of "Uneek" Australian Animals

The original steam train that was a regular to the town between the years of 1903 - 1967

An electromatic going past
Les used to work on these back in the mid 80's in the Mt Isa region

Once in Mundulla, the tourist in us didn't cease, a drive out to Mt Monster Conservation Park at 50m (92m above sea level) it apparently stands out from the surrounding flat agricultural lands.
It was an old Gold Mine and little Mt Monster is now a hole in the ground.

Also spent some time wandering around Keith

A land rover on a pole.
(In recognition to the clearing of the scrub for agricultural use)

And with that we say more goodbyes to Vicki and Huk, but hope to see you soon out on the road.

Our plan, is go the road less travelled and head towards Burra and then to Port Augusta via the Goyder Hwy.
Our first stop is Pinaroo. The town is definitely RV friendly with all travellers require right on hand, and it goes without saying we made the most of this opportunity, and camped up, sitting out the King's Birthday long weekend here.
And how we could not with a street named thus.???

A huge free camp area for self contained vehicles, we are in stealth mode hidden in the trees
It's a bit like Where's Wally picture

Pinaroo is another interesting town with lots of history. It made history by having the train line built first to encourage people to move here. This was a thriving town because of it.

                                                Comparison shots (circa) 1913 - 2024

In town there is a wildlife and bird park for rescued and injured native animals, the marsupials weren't playing the game

But the local sleepy lizard didn't mind at all

There's a lovely wetland reserve developed on the old steam train dam site
                                                             With displays from local artists

Not far up the road is Lameroo with its impressive silo art

And of course we had to stick our noses over the Victorian border for one last look before truly heading on

With one week and the long weekend just about done, we have one more week of staying away from the main tourist areas and who knows what we will find.
